MONOPOLY Katowice

The people of Katowice celebrated the transfer of their city to the MONOPOLY board with a roar! Strong interest in the project was evident long before the games were placed on shop shelves. A few months before the planned launch, a press conference was held with the city mayor, during which the project was officially announced. Local consultations and discussions with businesses and city institutions then began. However, non-commercial sites such as housing estates, parks and city facilities were not absent from the board. One of the fields was earmarked as a prize for a school in an organised art competition.

 

However, the final version of the game board could only be seen by residents on the day of the launch. The City Hall of Katowice decided to create a variant of the game with limited, collectible tokens alluding to the city and its monuments. One of the tokens- the Silesian noodle – was introduced into the basic edition of the game as a special token!

The launch itself was divided into a press conference with the city authorities and a field game for residents. Among the partners of the edition were: Katowice City Hall, the Silesian Museum, the University of Economics, Tauron Ciepło, the Central Mining Institute, Katowice Waterworks, the Porcelany Factory, Mr Kleks’ Fairy Tale, Galeria Katowicka and Galeria Libero.

MONOPOLY Dubai

Although we create most city editions with residents in mind, some of them also have great sales potential among tourists visiting the area. An example of such an implementation is the iconic city, Dubai. The board features famous landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa, the Marina and the Dubai Frame. The game was published in English, so it was distributed by both large retail chains and local souvenir shops.

TOP TRUMPS DUBAI

The range was complemented by personalised TOP TRUMPS Dubai cards. The simple card game fits in with the vibe of the city, and its size and price make it a great holiday souvenir. The launch of the games took place in the ballroom of the Burj Khalifa, one of the most recognisable buildings in the world. Mr MONOPOLY himself arrived at the launch… by helicopter.

MONOPOLY Ciechanów

The less than 45,000-strong city of Ciechanów is an example of maximising the potential of the MONOPOLY brand in the PR campaigns of medium and small cities. The project was initiated by the Ciechanów City Hall, which co-created the game’s content in consultation with the Winning Moves creative department. The combination of experience in game design and production and knowledge of the local market meant that the whole of Poland heard about MONOPOLY Ciechanów! All thanks to the inclusion on the MONOPOLY banknotes of images of people associated with the city.

In addition to Queen Bona and city mayor Krzysztof Kosiński, the notes are signed by rapper Quebonafide, Professor Jerzy Bralczyk and Olympic medallists Szymon Kołecki and Tomasz Majewski. Those involved themselves boasted about the game on their social media. The incredible interest also contributed to good sales of the product. Part of the print run was distributed directly by the City Council and the profit was donated to charity.
